2016 Draft Class Update— Connor Myers
No one advanced farther after the draft than Connor Myers, the Cubs 27th round pick out of Old Dominion. The all-time leader in games played at ODU, Myers finished his first pro season in the MWL playoffs with South Bend. The Maryland native made his pro debut in the Arizona Rookie League and was sent to Boise after a handful of games in the Mesa. The right-hander went 9-for-34 (.265) in 10 games for Eugene before heading to South Bend in late July. He ended the season as the starting center fielder, playing in 34 games while slashing .221/.258/.344 and showcasing his plus defensive skills. The 22-year-old showed some pop, hitting three homers, while swiping six bases. In the playoffs, Myers was 4-for-12 with two RBI and three extra base hits in three games against West Michigan. While all three of his homers cleared the left-field wall, Myers showed the ability to hit the ball to all fields. With Darryl Wilson expected to start in center for South Bend, Myers may have a hard time finding playing time in center but he did play eight of his 10 games in right field while the duo paired up in Eugene. And it could be Myers, not Wilson, who gets promoted to Myrtle Beach when a spot opens.
