Cubs fourth-round Tyson Miller is today’s draft pick feature and Chesny Young knocked in a pair in the Dominican playoffs.

Tyson Miller was the highest draft pick in school history and the Division II right-hander earned a championship ring in his first pro season.

2016  Draft Class Update— Tyson Miller, RHP

NSR intern Kevin McCarthy interviewed Miller and his college coach after the draft so you can read a bunch of his background here. The Cubs used their second pick (4th round, #134) on Miller and after signing for $500,000 made his debut in late July in the Arizona Rookie League. Miller headed to Eugene in early August and appeared in six games for the Ems, making four starts, 22 IP, 26 H, 4 BB, 14 K. In the playoffs, Miller made one start in the finals, surrendering a pair of unearned runs in the first and but didn’t make it out of the fourth in the loss, ending the night with a line of 3.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. Miller will be in a battle for one of the starting spots in South Bend.

After the first week. Aguilas (5-1) is ”running way” with the DWL title after a 5-3 win over Gigantes (1-4). Escogido (3-3) blanked Licey (2-4) 5-0 as 3B Chesny Young went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored in the win.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

No games scheduled. 

Puerto Rican Winter League

1B Yasiel Balaguert went 0-for-4 and fanned four times in Carolina’s 6-3 win over Santurce to even the series at a game apiece. Mayaguez took a 2-0 series lead with a 5-1 win over Caguas.
