Coghlan signs with Phillies
Former Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies that includes an invite to spring training. The Cubs then sent IF Arismendy Alcantara to Oakland in June to reacquire Coghlan. In 48 games for Chicago, Coghlan hit .252/.391/.388 and was on the playoff roster (0-for-7).

2017 Draft Notes
And so it begins. Reports out of Stanford are that RHP Tristan Beck will miss time with a back injury. Beck, 20, is ranked as the 13th best prospect by MLB.com and the sixth best college prospect by Baseball America. According to a report from BA, Beck has a small stress fracture in his back, is getting four weeks off, and won’t be back on the mound until April. A draft eligible sophomore, the 6-foot-4 right-hander could be one of those arms that has their stock fall as the college season progresses and could be there for the Cubs at the end of the first round. Considered the most complete college pitcher in the draft, Beck shows good command of four pitches and his change-up is considered his best pitch, working off a fastball in the low 90s.
