Hammel signs with Royals and the semi-finals set in Caribbean Series.

Cubs News

Another Cub instrumental in the World Series run is headed to Kansas City. Free-agent pitcher Jason Hammel and the Royals have agreed on a two-year, $16 million deal. The Cubs fifth starter in 2016, Hammel became a free agent when the Cubs declined the team’s $12 million option for 2017 back in November. The 34-year-old made 30 starts for the World Series champs, posting a 15-10 mark with a 3.83 ERA over 166.2 innings. Most of his stats were above his career numbers but he was left off the playoff roster due to the Cubs not needing a fifth starter. Chicago has left-handers Mike Montgomery and Brett Anderson in a spring training battle for the fifth spot.
