Pelicans prepare for Cubs-A-Palooza
As part of their 2017 promotional schedule, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans will host Cubs-A-Palooza on June 23-25 at TicketRerturn.Com Field. The three-day event will feature an appearance by Andrew Dawson and a Taste of Chicgo on the first day. Day two will feature Bill Buckner, a Replica World Series Trophy give-a-way and post-game fireworks. On the final day of event, Cubs-A-Palooza will transform into Cubstock, a Woodstock themed night with a Cubs twist. The night will feature a Joe Maddon inspired Groovy Bandana Giveaway and post-game fireworks. Cubs down Royals
Cubs evened their pre-season mark at 2-2-2 with a 7-3 win over Kansas City on March 1. DH Victor Caratini had three hits, including a double, and scored once while CF Jacob Hannemann (1-2, 2B, R), RF Eloy Jimenez (1-1, 2B, RBI) BB) and Chesny Young (1-2, R) all knocked in runs. Jeimer Candelario got the start at third and went 1-for-3 with a run while CF Albert Almora was 1-for-3. Other prospects seeing action were 2B Ian Happ (1-2, R), LF John Andreoli (1-1, R, BB), DH Charcer Burks (0-1), 1B Taylor Davis (0-1). Former Cub Jorge Soler went 0-for-2 with a strikeout.
Eddie Butler made his Cubs debut and worked two innings, allowing a first-inning homer. Cubs prospects handled the final seven innings including the organization debut of Mario Meza, who was signed out of the Mexican League. Meza got the final two outs of the sixth. RH Ryan Williams gave up a hit over two shutout innings and RH Jonathan Martinez worked 1.1 frames, walking three while fanning one. Tommy Nance retired all three hitters he faced while Daury Torrez and Juan Paniagua both allowed a run in their inning of work.
Cubs fall to Angels
Angels scored four times in the sixth and beat the Cubs 7-5 at Sloan Park on Feb. 28. Almora got the start in center and went 1-for-3 while Taylor Davis went 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Other prospects seeing action were 3B Chesny Young (0-2), C Victor Caratini (0-2), RF Eloy Jimenez (1-2), 2B Ian Happ (1-1), CF Jacob Hannemann (0-1), LF John Andreoli (0-1), DH Jeimer Candelario (0-2).
Making his Cubs debut, Alec Mills scattered three hits over two shutout frames, facing nine hitters. Maikel Cleto took the loss, getting charged with four runs on five hits and a walk in ? of an inning. RH Tyler Skulina surrendered a solo homer in the ninth.
