Cubs smacked four homers in Vegas to beat the Reds but lost to Rockies at Talking Stick.

Cubs bomb Reds 

Chesny Young, Kris Bryant, Ian Happ and Victor Caratini all homered as the Cubs beat the Reds 11-7 in a slugfest at Cashman Field in Las Vegas.

Bryant treated his hometown fans with a long two-run homer as the Cubs scored six times in the sixth and hit three homers. Happ (.417) continued his hot pace with his fifth homer of the spring, a three-run shot, and added a RBI to up his spring total to 17. Young started the six-run fifth with his second homer of the spring and finished the game 2-for-3 to up his average to .362. Caratini delivered a two-run homer in the seventh and also walked twice.

Other Cubs prospect seeing action in the split-season game were Bijan Rademacher(1-2, R), David Bote (1-2), Taylor Davis (0-2, 1 R), Bryant Flete (1-1, R), Carlos Penalver (1-1), Charcer Burks (0-1 R), Yasiel Balaguert (0-1).

Kyle Hendricks tossed three scoreless frames, working around three hits and four walks. Mike Montgomery pitched the fourth and surrendered a two-run homer to former Cub Arismendy Alcantara. Justin Grimm, David Berg and Dallas Beeler all threw a scoreless inning. Pierce Johnson gave up a run in the eighth and Stephen Perakslis got tagged for four runs on six hits in the ninth.

Rockies beat Cubs

Colorado rattled Cubs pitching for 14 hits and downed the Cubs 7-4 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.

Jason Heyward slugged his second homer of the springs. two-run shot in the sixth. 2B Carlos Sepulveda, sho spent last season in South Bend, got the start at second and finished the game 1-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Jeffrey Baez had two hits, scored once and plate the Cubs final run. Other prospects seeing action in the spot squad game are Zack Short (0-3), Miguel Amaya (0-0, R), Darryl Wilson (0-1), Andrew Ely (0-1), Trey Martin (0-1).

Named to the rotation earlier in the week, Brett Anderson got the start and threw 75 pitches over four inns. He was charged with one unearned run and allowed six hits with a walk and two punchouts. Wade Davis only retired one of the five hitters he faced, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks. Mario Meza allowed two inherited runners to score in the fifth before getting the final two outs. Hector Rondon and Pedro Strop each yielded a run in their one inning outing. Gerardo Concepcion worked a scoreless eighth.
