Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 18, New Orleans 5
For the third time this season, Jeimer Candelario knocked in five runs as Iowa whipped New Orleans.
Hitting Recap: 3B Jeimer Candelario (.370) had three doubles, a triple and knocked in five runs to lead the 17-hit attack. It was the third time Candelario has recorded five RBI. 2B Ian Happ (.276) slugged his team-high fourth homer and finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored. 1B Taylor Davis (.227) launched his first homer of the year, going 2-for-5 with three RBI. RF Chesny Young (.174) and LF Mark Zagunis (.150) both had two hits, two RBI and three runs scored.
Pitching Chart: Alec Mills, acquired from Kansas City for Donnie Dewees during the off-season, improved to 2-0 with five shutout innings in his second start. Mills threw 67 pitches, 48 for strikes, allowing three hits while fanning three. Game score 67. Southern League—AA—MIssissippi (Braves) 6, Tennessee 2
The Braves scored four times in the third and spoiled the Smokies home opener.
Hitting Recap: Tennessee grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when Charcer Burks walked, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice by Andrew Ely and scored on an single from David Bote. Bote finished the night 2-for-3 to up his average to .435. Trey Martin added RBI single in the fourth, scoring Ian Rice, who led off the frame with a double.
Pitching Chart: Zach Hedges (0-2, 5.40 ERA) made his second start and held the Braves scoreless the first two innings but yielded four runs in the third and finished with a line of 5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB 3 K. Game score 47. Brad Markey fanned the side in the sixth in his only inning. Daury Torrez gave up a run in two frames while Gerardo Concepcion allowed a solo homer in the ninth.

Carolina League—High A—Buies Creek (Astros) 5, Myrtle Beach 1
Buies Creek scored three times in the fifth and took the rubber game of the series from Myrtle Beach.
Hitting Recap: Pelicans didn’t have much luck against RH Akeem Bostick, only getting two hits (singles from Trent Giambrone and Tyler Alamo) and a walk (Connor Myers) in six shutout innings. Myrtle Beach had a two-out rally in the seventh. Daniel Spingola tripled and Matt Rose followed with a RBI single. Alamo doubled, to put runners on the second and third, but Jesse Hodges flew out to end the threat. Pelicans finished with five hits.
Pitching Chart: Thomas Hatch gave up an unearned run over the first four frames but didn’t make it out of the fifth. After retiring the first two hitters, the Astros singled, walked, doubled and singled for a 4-0 lead and knocked Hatch out of the game. The right-hander fanned five and allowed five hits and two walks in the 81-pitch outing. Game score 47. LH Tommy Thorpe worked 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, surrendering three hits with one strikeout. LH John Williamson worked around two walks and a hit batter in a scoreless seventh but gave up a run in the eighth.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 4, Fort Wayne (Padres) 2
South Bend scored three times in the top of the eighth to win their fourth straight.
Hitting Recap: Cubs were blanked for the first five frames but got on the board in the sixth when DH Darryl Wilson (.158) singled, took third on single from SS Zack Short (.208) and scored on a single from 3B Wladimir Galindo (.200). Cubs broke it open in the eighth. 1B Alberto Mineo (.300) led off with walk and took second on a single from Galindo. RF Chris Pieters (.130) followed with a single to score Mineo and give the Cubs a one-run lead. LF Kevonte Mitchell (.167) then tripled home two runs for a 4-1 Cubs advantage. 2B Yeiler Peguero finished the night 3-for-4 to up his average to .292.
Pitching Chart: Tyson Miller compiled his second strong outing, only surrendering an unearned run over five innings. The right-hander allowed two hits, walked three and recorded six strikeouts in the 77-pitch outing, 51 for strikes. Game score 63. Piggy-backing Miller, Duncan Robinson loaded the bases in the sixth but got a pop out to the catcher to end the frame. Robinson worked around leadoff singles with seventh and eighth but the Tin Caps finally broke through in the ninth with back-to-back doubles. A walk and a force out on a bunt ended Robinson day—3.1 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB 2 K….Entering the game with runners on second and third with one out, LH Wyatt Short fanned two of the Padres top prospects—Fernando Tatis and Jorge Ona—for his first MWL save.
