Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 8, Round Rock (Rangers) 3
Mark Zagunis hit a grand slam in Iowa’s five run fourth to help beat Round Rock.
Hitting Recap: LF Mark Zagunis (.180) smacked his second homer of the season, a grand slam in the fourth inning. Zagunis finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Cubs collected 11 hits in the win. Playing in his first game with Iowa, 3B Tommy La Stella was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. 2B Ian Happ (.266) was on base four times with two singles and two walks. 1B Victor Caratini (.328) was 2-for-5 with two RBI while RF Bijan Rademacher (.237) added two hits, including his first homer.
Pitching Chart: Jake Buchanan got the start and went three innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk. He fanned four and gave up a homer in the 71-pitch outing. Zac Rosscup got the win in relief, fanning four over two scoreless innings. Miguel Mejia didn’t allow a hit in 2.1 frames and Pierce Johnson recorded the final five outs, three on strikes.

Smokies and the Lookouts were rained out and the two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday. Smokies have not named a starter for either game.
Carolina League—High A—Down East (Rangers) 8, Myrtle Beach 2
Down East scored five times in the seventh and hit three homers to beat Myrtle Beach
Hitting Recap: Only six hits for the Pelicans, two from Adonis Paula. Myrtle Beach scored on passed ball in the fourth and a throwing error by the third baseman in the fifth.
Pitching Chart: Thomas Hatch made his fourth start and went four innings, surrendering two runs on four hits and a walk. He fanned six and threw 78 pitches, 52 for strikes. Rough night for Jeremy Null (0-1, 11.74) as he gave up the go ahead run in the sixth and then surrendered three homers in the seventh, plating five more runs. LH John Williamson got the final five outs.

Midwest League—Low A—Dayton (Reds) 7, South Bend 2
Dayton scored three times in the first and evened the series at South Bend.
Hitting Recap: Cubs had seven hits but went 2-for-13 with RISP, stranding seven runners. SS Isaac Paredes (.228) and 2B Yeiler Peguero (.357) both drove in runs. Peguero extended his hit streak to 10 games. CF Darryl Wilson (.213) was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored. He also threw a runner out at second.
Pitching Chart: Tyson Miller (0-2, 4.66 ERA) got tagged for six runs on six hits and four walks over 4.2 innings. The right-hander threw 87 pitches and had a game score of 27. RH Chad Hockin surrendered a homer in 1.1 frames and Dakota Mekkes fanned two over two scoreless innings. Mekkes has not allowed a hit over 11 innings with four walks and 14 strikeouts in five appearances. Michael Rucker fanned all three hitters he faced in his first game back from the DL.
