Duane Underwood helped the Smokies to a split while Iowa and South Bend lost.

Here’s a look at action around the Cubs affiliates including Duane Underwood’s gem as Tennessee eared a split in Chattanooga.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Round Rock (Rangers) 9, Iowa 2

Round Rock (9-10) scored five times over the first two innings and beat Iowa (9-10).

Hitting Recap: Iowa used a Round Rock throwing error to take a 1-0 lead in the first as Tommy La Stella, who had three hits on the night, singled and scored. Todd Glaesmann added RBI single in the fourth. Mark Zagunis was on base three times with two singles and a walk while Ian Happ went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts.

Pitching Chart: Seth Frankoff (0-1, 4.05 ERA) got the start and pitched into the fifth, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk. He fanned five and gave up a pair of homers. David Rollins fanned four in two innings of relief and Dylan Floro gave up two runs in 1.1 frames.

I-Cubs Notes: Williams Perez (0-2, 11.00 ERA) gets the start in the series finale on Tuesday night against Round Rock.

Southern League—AA—Game 1—Tennessee 7, Chattanooga (Twins) 4; Game 2—Chattanooga 5, Tennessee 0

Tennessee used two homers to win the opener but were blanked in the nightcap.

Hitting Recap: Game 1—Smokies took a 3-0 lead in the first on a two-run double from David Bote and a RBI single from Yasiel Balaguert. Charcer Burks blasted his second homer of the year in the sixth, a slot shot, and Jeffrey Baez smacked a two-run homer in the seventh. Burks, Balaguert and Baez all finished with two hits; Game 2—Only three hits for the Smokies, singles from Burks, Baez and Roberto Caro.

Pitching Chart: Game 1Duane Underwood turned in his best performance of the season, blanking the Lookouts over five innings. Underwood threw 80-pitches, 49 for strikes, and allowed three hits and two walks with one strikeout. Game score 61. Brad Markey pitched the final two frames, surrendering four runs on five hits and three walks.; Game 2— Daniel Corcino got the start and didn’t make it out of the fourth, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks. He fanned five in his second start. Stephen Perakslis allowed all three inherited runners to score and before the frame was over, the Lookouts had added two more. Andury Acevedo pitched the final inning.

Smokies News: Smokies play a twin-bill on Tuesday night and no starters have been named.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach

Pelicans had Monday off and send Oscar De La Cruz to the mound on Tuesday night as they host Wilmington.

Midwest League—Low A—Lansing (Blue Jays) 11, South Bend 5

Lansing pounded South Bend pitching for 15 hits in the win.

Hitting Recap: South Bend had 10 hits in the loss, three off the bat of red-hot Wladimir Galindo, who raised his average to .349. Yeiler Peguero extended his hit streak to 12 games with a double. Isaac Paredes hit his first homer, a two-run shot in the second. Vimael Machin added two hits and Darryl Wilson tripled.

Pitching Chart: Dylan Cease got the start and threw 78 pitches over four innings, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks. Cease fanned five and threw a wild pitch. Pedro Silverio took the loss, surrendering five runs in the fifth on five hits, two leaving the yard. LH Marc Huberman gave up three runs over the final three innings.
