Happ to DL
Iowa’s Ian Happ has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a bruised left thumb. Happ injured the thumb on April 28 and had to leave the game in the seventh inning. Happ was batting .250/.333/.571 in 21 games with a organization-high eight homers and 17 RBI. Iowa activated IF Chris Dominguez from the DL.
Pacific Coast League—AAA—New Orleans (Marlins) 5, Iowa 3
Iowa outhit the Baby Cakes 11-7 but were just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Hitting Recap: Iowa grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on a RBI ground out by Chris Dominguez and a RBI single from C Victor Caratini (.329). The Cub loaded the bases in the sixth and added another run on a CF Todd Glaesmann (.130) ground ball. Dominguez went 3-for-4 in his first game in the Cubs organization while Caratini, RF Chesny Young (.226) and SS Osvaldo Martinez (.228) all had two hits. Taylor Davis (.273) saw his 38-game on-base streak come to an end as he fanned in his only plate appearance.
Pitching Chart: Seth Frankoff only allowed one hit, a solo homer in the fourth, and fanned six over five solid innings. He issued one walk in the 83-pitch outing and recorded seven ground ball outs. Game score of 63 in his best outing of the season…Rob Zastryzny (0-1, 6.88 ERA) took the loss, surrendering four runs in 2.2 frames on six hits and a walk. Its been a tough start for the left-hander as he’s allowed runs in six of his seven relief appearances….RH Miguel Mejia fanned the only hitter he faced in the eighth, stranding an inherited runner.
I-Cubs Notes: Jake Buchanan (0-2, 7.23 ERA) makes his fifth start on Wednesday night in New Orleans.
Smokies had Tuesday off and host Jacksonville for a five-game series starting Wednesday night that includes a noon start on Thursday. RH Trevor Clifton (2-1, 3.10 ERA) takes the mound on Wednesday for his fifth start.

Carolina League—High A—Game 1—Frederick (Orioles) 2, Myrtle Beach 1; Game 2—Frederick 8, Myrtle Beach 2
Frederick pitching kept the Pelicans bats in check and swept the twin-bill.
Hitting Recap: Game 1—After four scoreless, the Pelicans got on the board with a solo homer from Adonis Paula, his first. OF Daniel Spingola then followed with a triple but was stranded at third after two strikeouts and a ground out. Connor Myers doubled with two outs in the seventh to put two runners in scoring position but Bryant Flete struckout to end the game.
Game 2—Pelicans only runs came on sole homers from Adonis Paula and Robert Garcia. Paula hit his second homer of the twin-bill in the seventh and Garcia smacked his first long ball of the year in the fifth. Only six hits for Myrtle Beach, two from C P.J. Higgins.
Pitching Chart: Game 1—Ryan Kellogg breezed through the first three frames, only needed 27 pitches to set down the Keys, including nine straight after a leadoff double in the first. Keys scored in the fourth after two outs with an infield single, a dropped pop-up that was ruled a hit, and a base hit to left. A double, a single and a ground ball under the glove of Jesse Hodges gave the Keys a 2-1 lead in the sixth. The left-hander’s line in the complete game was 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB 1 K, 76 pitches, 54 for strikes, game score 57.
Game 2—Kyle Miller’s Carolina League debut got off to a rough start as the right-hander gave up three straight hits, the final one a single that plated two runs in the first. The Keys chased Miller (0-1, 10.13 ERA) in the third with two homers and a RBI single with Miller getting charged with five runs in the frame. Tommy Thorpe tossed 1.1 scoreless frames but allowed one inherited runner to score in the five-run third. Pedro Araujo worked a scoreless fifth and Scott Effross gave up a run in the sixth.
Pelicans News: Adbert Alzolay (2-0, 2.49 ERA) makes his team-high sixth start on Wednesday morning in Frederick. It marks his first day start……The Pelicans have activated IF Matt Rose from the DL and placed C Tyler Pearson on the 7-day disabled list.
Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 7, Kane County (Diamondbacks) 6
South Bend scored four times in the bottom of the ninth and won on a walk-off wild pitch.
Hitting Recap: Kane County pitcher Jon Duplantier hadn’t allowed an earned run over his first 20.1 innings, that streak didn’t last long. DH Yeiler Peguero (.302) delivered a RBI triple in the first and then scored on Kevonte Mitchell’s single for a 2-0 lead. CF Darryl Wilson gave the Cubs a 3-2 lead in the fifth with a solo homer in the fifth. Trailing 6-3 heading into the ninth, C Jhonny Pereda (.338) singled and RF Luis Ayala (.261) followed with a double. Wilson had the third straight hit, a singles coring both runners and pulling the Cubs to within one. Two walks loaded the bases and Wilson scored on a ground out by Yeiler Peguero to tie the game. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, another wild pitch scored 2B Zack Short (.253) to give the Cubs the comeback win. Wilson ended the night 2-for-4 with three RBI. Peguero plated a pair of runs while Short was on base three times with a hit and two walks, and swiped his sixth base.
Pitching Chart: LH Jose Paulino (4.95 ERA) fanned six over the first three frames but ran into trouble in the fourth. A double, a hit batter, another double and a sacrifice fly tied the game at 2-2. Paulino surrendered two more runs in the sixth on a single, a triple and a double. He ended the night with a line of 6 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 78 pitches, 50 for strikes, game score 57…..LF Marc Huberman (2.19 ERA) fanned the side in a scoreless seventh and Chad Hockin (5:49 ERA) surrendered a two-run homer in the eighth. Wyatt Short (1-0, 2.45 ERA) worked around two hits and a walk in the ninth and got credit of the win.
SB-Cubs News: Tyson Miller (0-2, 4.43 ERA) takes the mound on Wednesday morning against Kane County.…..South Bend has placed 1B/3B Wladimir Galindo on the 7-day disabled list and active C Alberto Mineo from the DL. Galindo is slashing .324/.367/.432 with a homer and seven RBI in 19 games.
