Jacob Hannemann’s solo homer in the sixth proved to be the difference.
Hitting Recap: Only five hits for the Smokies. C Ian Rice went 3-for-3 and smacked his first homer of the year, a solo shot in the second. Rice also doubled. Hannemann’s blast in the sixth was his first of the season.
Pitching Chart: Trevor Clifton had a solid outing, allowing just one run on seven hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. The right-hander fanned five in the 103-pitch outing. Daury Torrez got the win in relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless frames. Andury Acevedo was perfect, retiring all six hitters he faced to earn his first save.
Smokies News: Preston Morrison (0-2, 2.28 ERA) gets the start on Thursday afternoon against Jacksonville.
Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 4, Frederick (Orioles) 3
Hitting Recap: Pelicans tied the game in the fifth on a two-run single from CF Robert Garcia. Myrtle Beach loaded the bases in the fifth on a single by Eddy Martinez, a walk to Daniel Spingola and Adonis Paula was hit by a pitch. In the sixth, Trent Giambrone knocked a solo homer, his third, over the left field wall and one out later, Spingola followed with his second bomb of the season. Only five hits for the Pelicans.
Pitching Chart: Adbert Alzolay got the start and didn’t make it out of the second inning, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. Alzolay fanned two in the 61-pitch outing. Casey Bloomquist was perfect in relief and earned the win, retiring all 10 hitters he faced, two on strikes. Dillon Maples fanned four in two frames, allowing one run, and Craig Brooks got the final six outs for his first save. Brooks fanned three.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 6, Kane County (Diamondbacks) 2
Three South Bend pitchers held the Cougars to four hits and Kevonte Mitchell led the offense with three hits.
Hitting Recap: Big day for Kevonte Mitchell as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, two stolen bases and a RBI. Jhonny Pereda added two RBI while Chris Pieters had two hits and scored twice. 2B Yeiler Peguero was 1-for-4 with a RBI
Pitching Chart: Tyson Miller (1-2, 3.81 ERA) got the start and went six innings, surrendering two runs (one eared) on three hits and a walk. He fanned four and gave up a homer in the 88-pitch outing. Game score 60. Pedro Silverio tossed two scoreless relief innings and Dakota Mekkes worked the ninth.
