Iowa and Myrtle Beach both won and South Bend is still playing.

South Bend’s game was suspended after 18 innings while Iowa and Myrtle Beach both flew the “W”. Tennessee was rained out.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 7, New Orleans 1

Aaron Brooks tossed six strong innings and Iowa (13-14) split the four-game series in New Orleans (10-18). 

Hitting Recap: Chesny Young went 3-for-4, scored twice and knocked in a run to lead the offense. Todd Glaesmann had two hits, including his first homer, and knocked in two. C Taylor Davis added two RBI while Tommy La Stella scored twice. Mark Zagunis was on base three times with two walks and a RBI single.

Pitching Chart: Aaron Brooks (3-2, 5.81 ERA) tossed six solid innings, allowing one run (solo homer) on five hits and no walks. He fanned five and threw 94 pitches for a game score of 61. David Rollins fired two scoreless relief innings for his first hold and Miguel Mejia retired the side in order in the ninth.

I-Cubs Notes: A starter has not been named as the I-Cubs host Memphis on Saturday night.

Southern League—AA—Tennessee vs. Jacksonville—Rained Out

The game was rained out Friday night and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday. Duane Underwood (1-1, 3.60 ERA) is scheduled to start in Game 1 and Zach Hedges (3-2, 2.51 ERA) will get the ball in Game 2.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 4, Buies Creek (Astros) 2

Myrtle Beach (16-13) scored three times in the third and hung on to beat Buies Creek (19-10)

Hitting Recap: In the third, 3B Jesse Hodges led off with his fourth homer. Robert Garcia singled and scored on a double from Carlos Sepulveda. Trent Giambrone’s sacrifice fly scored Sepulveda for the final run of the frame. Pelicans added a run in the sixth on a wild pitch.

Pitching Chart: Justin Steele got the start and went 4.2 innings, allowing a solo homer, one of four hits. He walked three and fanned two in the 90-pitch outing. Marc Huberman made his Carolina League debut and allowed a run on two hits and four walks over 1.1 frames. Dillon Maples (4-0, 1.59 ERA) retired all six of the hitters he faced, three on strikes. Craig Brooks fanned the side in the ninth for his second save. 

Pelicans News: Oscar De La Cruz (1-2, 4.24 ERA) gets the start on Saturday against Buies Creek…..Myrtle Beach has placed RHP Pedro Araujo on the disabled list and LHP Marc Huberman has been promoted from South Bend.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 6, Clinton (Mariners) 6—Suspended after 18 innings

Clinton scored four times in the top of the eighth and the two teams added 10 scoreless frames before the game was suspended due to curfew rules. It will be completed on Saturday.

Hitting Recap: South Bend did all their scoring in the fist four innings. They tied the game at 1-1 in the first on a RBI double from Alberto Mineo. They added four more in the second on a two-run double from Luis Ayala and a ground out that resulted in two runs scoring with the assistance of a throwing error. Darryl Wilson blasted his third homer of the year in the fourth, a solo shot. Wilson finished 3-for-6 while Zack Short and MIneo had two hits each.

Pitching Chart: South Bend pitching fanned 24 Clinton hitters in the game.  Bryan Hudson got the start and tossed five frames, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks. He fanned six and thew 74 pitches, 42 for strikes. Duncan Robinson got charged with four runs in the eighth, but only one of those runs was earned. Robinson works three innings and gave up a two-run homer. Michael Rucker fanned three in two shutout frames while Wyatt Short added two more scoreless innings. Jared Cheek fanned seven of the 10 hitters he faced in three scoreless and Chad Hockin tossed three more shutout frames.

SB-Cubs News: OF Chris Pieters was placed on the 7-day disabled list and OF @Brandon Cummings was assigned to South Bend from extended spring training. LHP Marc Huberman was promoted to Myrtle Beach.
