Pacific Coast League—AAA—Colorado Springs (Brewers) 8, Iowa 3
Colorado Springs hit five homers and beat Iowa for the fourth straight game to complete the sweep.
Hitting Recap: Cubs tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth on a two-run double from Chris Dominguez, scoring Victor Caratini and Jeimer Candelario. Cubs grabbed a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Mark Zagunis doubled, took third on single from Taylor Davis and scored on a sacrifice fly by Caratini. Zagunis finished 2-for-4.
Pitching Chart: Aaron Brooks (3-4, 6.35 ERA) went six innings and surrendered four homers, part of the nine hits the Sky Sox collected off the right-hander, scoring six runs. Brooks fanned four in the 103-pitch outing. Dylan Floro worked two frames, giving up a two-run homer in the eighth.
I-Cubs Notes: Iowa has Monday off and head to Nashville on Tuesday. A starter has not been named.
Southern League—AA—Jackson (Diamondbacks) 9, Tennessee 4
Jackson scored four times in the fourth as the Generals snapped Tennessee’s three-game win streak.
Hitting Recap: Smokies grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when LF Charcer Burks (.302) walked, took second when 2B David Bote (.277) was hit by a pitch and scored on a RBI single from 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.226). Smokies added two more runs in the fifth on RBI singles from Bote and 3B Jason Vosler (.263). C Ian Rice (.264) went 2-for-4 and smacked a solo homer in the sixth, his eighth.
Pitching Chart: Zach Hedges (6-5, 4.06 ERA) tossed three scoreless frames but ran into trouble in the fourth, surrendering four runs, three coming on a homer. Hedges threw 105 pitches and finished with a line of 5.2 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. RH Brad Markey 3.55 ERA) gave up a run in 1.1 frames and RH Dillon Maples made his AA debut, allowing a RBI double in the eighth.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 6, Carolina (Brewers) 1
Pelican scored four times in the first and beat Carolina for the third time in the series and upped their lead over the Mudcats to 3.5 games.
Hitting Recap: RF Eloy Jimenez (.293) capped off a four-run first with a two-run homer over the left field wall, his sixth. 2B Bryant Flete (.298) and 3B Jesse Hodges (.274) both went 3-for-5 and scored twice. LF Daniel Spingola had two hits and knocked in a run.
Pitching Chart: Michael Rucker (1-0, 1.80 ERA) made his second start and went 4.2 innings, allowing a solo homer, one of two hits, with three walks and five strikeouts. Rucker threw 77 pitches, 46 for strikes. Tommy Thorpe (3-2, 4.00 ERA) got the win in relief, stranding two inherited runners in the fifth and retiring all five hitters he faced. RH Dakota Mekkes made his Carolina League debut and worked around three hits and two walks in 1.1 scoreless frames. Pedro Araujo (2.28 ERA) got the final four outs.

Midwest League—Low A—Great Lakes (Dodgers) 4, South Bend 3
A solo homer in the bottom of the sixth gave Great Lakes the one-run win over South Bend (37-25).
Hitting Recap: Cubs had runners on each of the first five innings (four hits and four walks), but two double plays and 0-for-5 with RISP led to five stranded runners and no runs. Cubs finally broke through in the sixth when Vimael Machin (.318) doubled and scored on a RBI single from 1B Alberto Mineo (.305). RF Chris Pieters (.244) followed with a run-scoring triple and then scored on a ground out to first by DH Michael Cruz (.194). 3B Zack Short (.239) finished 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching Chart: Making his first start since May 18, Dylan Cease (2.75 ERA) was hitting the gun at 94-95 in the first inning and after a leadoff single, struckout the next two hitters. A stolen base and two wild pitches scored a run. Cease added two more punchouts in a 1-2-3 second and hit 97 with one of his fastballs. Cease left after two innings and 28 pitches, 20 for strikes……Tyler Peyton (2-1, 3.32 ERA) made his sixth appearance, fifth in relief, and worked a scoreless third but gave up lone runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth. The right-hander threw 72 pitches and finished with a line of 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K……RH Pedro Silverio (5.14 ERA) blanked the Loons for two frames, working out of bases loaded jam in the eighth.
SB-Cubs News: Bryan Hudson (0-1, 4.06 ERA, 9 GS, 44.1 IP, 18 BB, 21 K, 1.44 WHIP) is scheduled to start on Monday night but Jose Paulino (2-2, 6.26 ERA, 41.2 IP, 23 BB, 27 K, 1.70 WHIP) may get the ball as he was pushed back on Sunday to make room for Cease.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 1
Cubs had Sunday off and play Astros Orange on Monday. IF Herson Perez (’15-Ven) leads the team with a .381 average after seven games. Carlos Pacheco (’16-Mex) has smacked pair of homers and has a team-high four RBI. A member of the 2016 IFA class, right-hander Yovanny Cruz (DR) leads the team with eight innings and 10 strikeouts and is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 2
Cubs had Sunday off and face Phillies White on Monday. C Franklin Tineo (’13-DR) leads the offense with a .400 average (6-for-15) while 3B Orian Nunez is hitting .387 after seven games. Henrry Pedra (’13-Ven) has a team-high six RBI. RH Emilio Ferrebus (’14-Ven) has tossed a team-high eight innings in two starts and RH Ivan Medina (’13-Ven) reds the staff with eight strikeouts. LH Didier Vargas (’16-Pan) tossed five one-hit innings in his pro debut.
