Chicago Cubs Roster Report

If Kerry Wood comes back on July 11, it will represent the first time this season that the rotation of Wood, Mark Prior, Carlos Zambrano, Matt Clement and Greg Maddux has been intact this season.

PITCHERS TO WATCH:
--RHP Kerry Wood will make a rehab start for Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday night (July 6). If all goes well, he is eyeing a return to the parent squad for a July 11 start against St. Louis.

--RHP Jon Leicester is 2-0, and both victories came in the pressure of extra innings.

--RHP Carlos Zambrano's 9-3 record with a 2.41 ERA earned him his first spot in the All-Star Game.

LINEUP LOWDOWN: With reserve outfielder Todd Hollandsworth on the disabled list, the Cubs' bench strength has been reduced. Hollandsworth hit .318 with eight homers and 22 RBI and hit .563 as a pinch-hitter with two homers and four RBI.

POSITION PLAYERS TO WATCH:
--3B Aramis Ramirez, who leads the team with 56 RBI, injured his left groin Friday (July 2), and his availability this week was unknown.

--1B Derrek Lee finished with 40 hits in June and a .385 average -- the fifth-highest Cubs average since 1972.

--RF Sammy Sosa, who hit four homers in a six-game stretch, says his stroke is coming back since his return from a back injury.

MEDICAL WATCH: OF Todd Hollandsworth went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 28 with a bruised right shin. LHP Mike Remlinger (shoulder tendinitis) returned to the 15-day disabled list and hopes to be back after the team returns from the All-Star break. RHP Joe Borowski (torn right rotator cuff) was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 6 and could be out until August. RHP Todd Wellemeyer (strain in his lower right shoulder) has been making rehab appearances for Triple-A Iowa. RHP Kerry Wood was placed on the 15-day disabled list -- backdated to May 12 -- because of tightness in his right triceps. He is scheduled to make a rehab start for Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday (July 6) and could be back for a July 11 start against St. Louis. SS Alex Gonzalez suffered a broken right wrist and will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa Monday. He is on the 60-day disabled list. RHP Ryan Dempster (Tommy John surgery last October) is on the 60-day disabled list and has been making minor league rehab starts for Class-A Lansing. After one appearance for Triple-A Iowa, Dempster experienced back pain but is scheduled to return to Iowa on Wednesday.
