Chicago Cubs Roster Report

PITCHING TRENDS: OK, let's try it again. With Mark Prior returning from a second bout of elbow pain on Sunday (July 25), the Cubs hope their starting pitching staff will remain whole for the rest of the season.

PITCHERS TO WATCH:
--RHP Greg Maddux threw back-to-back complete games and if he wins against Milwaukee on Tuesday, he will shoot for his 300th career victory on Sunday (Aug. 1) against Philadelphia.

--RHP Kerry Wood threw 101 pitches in Friday's (July 23) 5-1 victory over Philadelphia -- the most since coming back from a triceps injury that shelved him for two months.

--RHP Matt Clement continues to pitch effectively but hasn't won a decision since June 8.

LINEUP LOWDOWN: The heart of the lineup (Sammy Sosa, Moises Alou, Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez) is heating up but there is a concern the Cubs are relying too much on the long ball.

POSITION PLAYERS TO WATCH:
--1B Derrek Lee has hit six homers in 10 games since the All-Star break.

--LF Moises Alou, who slumped before the All-Star break, has hit six homers in his first 10 games since the break.

--SS Alex Gonzalez hit just 4-for-23 (.174) in his first six game back from a wrist injury.

MEDICAL WATCH: OF Todd Hollandsworth went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 28 with a bruised right shin. He hopes to start a rehab assignment soon. RHP Joe Borowski (torn right rotator cuff) was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 6 and could be out until late August. RHP Ryan Dempster (Tommy John surgery last October) is on the 60-day disabled list and made several rehab starts for Triple-A Iowa and will make some appearances in the bullpen.
