Game Notes and Photos: March 4

<B>MESA, Ariz.</B>—Kerry Wood made his first start of the spring, and Nomar Garciaparra hit a two-run home run to aid the Cubs in an 8-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants Friday at HoHoKam Park. Inside are notes and photos from the contest.

Kerry Wood makes his first spring start of the year.

Wood went two innings, allowing no runs on two hits.

Glendon Rusch took over for Wood in the third inning.

Rusch was hit hard, surrendering two runs on four hits in two innings.

Nomar Garciaparra is congratulated by Todd Walker on his first home run of the spring.

Walker started and finished 1-for-2 with a double.

Corey Patterson went 2-for-2 with a double.

#61 Peter Bergeron makes contact. Bergeron, a non-roster invitee, took over for Patterson and went 1-for-3.

Aramis Ramirez doubled in his only at-bat.

Jose Macias stands in. Macias replaced Ramirez at third base and went 0-for-2.

LaTroy Hawkins pitches in relief.

Hawkins allowed one run on three hits in one inning of work.

Pinch hitter Danny Klassen came off the bench and scored a run.

Todd Wellemeyer pitches in relief.

Wellemeyer hurled two innings of scoreless relief.

Both teams hammered out 11 hits Friday, and Dave Hansen cracked his first home run of the spring off Giants right-hander Matt Herges in the sixth inning. Attendance for the Cubs' spring home opener was 12,857. Last year, the Cubs shattered their previous attendance record by drawing 177,008 for the spring.
