Since coming over to the Cubs from San Francisco earlier this year, Aardsma has pitched effectively out of the Double-A club's bullpen. He is 4-0 with a 2.72 ERA for West Tenn in 26 appearances (three starts).
Guzman has missed most of the entire season with injury, and any chance of playing somewhere other than a complex league this season has long since passed. In three starts for the Mesa Cubs, he has a zero ERA with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
Murton and Coats were Double-A Southern League all-stars this year, while Patterson was recognized as an all-star in the Class-A Midwest League for his performance in the first half. Murton was promoted to Chicago and could not play in Mobile.
The Arizona Fall League is host to Triple- and Double-A prospects primarily. Major League rules state that only one player below Double-A is allowed per major league team. Representing the Cubs in that respect will be Patterson, the top hitter in his league with a .333 average in 106 games.
The rules also state that only one foreign player is allowed to play in the league so long as he does not take up residence in a country participating in winter ball programs.
Six teams make up the league. Each roster holds 30 players per team.
