Walker's Wednesdays: the Smackdown

Baseball players are people, too. This week, Cubs prospect Chris Walker talks about... hockey, Charles Barkley, and Wrestling? Walker is moving amongst the big boys these days.

Week in and week out I talk about baseball. This week I want to tell everyone about the things that I like to do for fun.

I'm a huge sports fan and living in Atlanta, I get the chance to go to many sporting events. Recently, I went to an Atlanta Thrashers hockey game.

I've tried watching hockey on television, and to be honest it was boring. So, I wasn't that excited to go, but I'm singing a new tune now. The tickets that my family received were front row and to the right of the goalie. I have a new respect for the sport and had such a great time at the game.

Hockey is a very fast paced game and the players are huge. There's so much non stop action and crazy hits that you can't help but to enjoy the sport. The Thrashers lost but I had such a great time.

At the end of the Thrashers game, I got a chance to go into the TNT studio and meet Charles Barkley. I'll tell you one thing about Mr. Barkley: what you see is what you get.

He's absolutely hilarious and an all-around good person. Charles introduced himself to my sister and me, and asked my sister about school and her grades. Charles happens to be good friends with my mentor and former Cubs Outfield and Baserunning instructor Vince Coleman.

We talked about him and Vince playing golf and the trash talking that goes on between the two. It was a great opportunity to meet a basketball great and to see his personality.

Now I want to share with everyone my favorite sporting event to watch on television and see in person.  I'm a huge fan of WWE Wrestling and I got a chance to see an event this past Monday. I'm such a fan that I watch Wrestling every Monday night, so I was very excited to get a chance to watch wrestling live.

I've watched wrestling since I was a little kid when there were guys like Hulk Hogan, King Kong Bundy, Ultimate Warrior, Andre The Giant, Big John Studd, Junk Yard Dog, and The Legion of Doom. I felt like a little kid watching this event live.

Now, I can't say what these guys do to get in shape, but the wrestlers are huge. Ric Flair and Triple H had a match and it was very entertaining. I think Ric Flair is 53 years old and he's still wrestling. He's still styling and profiling. When he came out, everyone in Phillips Arena was yelling.

Ric lost but the match was great. The current WWE Champion, John Cena, and Maria had a mixed tag team match against Edge and Lita. The winner of the match got to pick the special guest referee for next week's title match between John Cena and Edge. The match was back and forth but John Cena and Maria won.

John picked Mick Foley, a.k.a. Cactus Jack, Dude Love, Mankind for his special guest referee. I had a great time and wouldn't trade the experience for anything. It was pretty awesome to see thousands of fans going crazy to see the show these athletes put on.

I can only imagine what its like to perform in front of that many people.
