Leicester Trade Completed

The Cubs acquired LHP Clint Brannon from Texas Monday to complete the November trade that sent Jon Leicester to the Rangers.

Brannon, 23, made 14 starts and pitched in 29 games for Class-A Bakersfield in 2005, finishing up 9-7 with a 4.45 ERA in the California League. He struck out 81, walked 40, logged 111 1/3 innings. The previous season for Class-A Spokane of the Northwest League, Brannon was 3-2 with a league best 0.59 ERA in 15 games, including 10 starts, in his rookie season.

He was drafted by the Rangers out of high school in the 34th round of the 2004 draft.

Leicester, a shy right-hander drafted by the Cubs in 2000 out of the University of Memphis, appeared in 24 games and made 16 starts for Triple-A Iowa in 2005, going 3-8 with a 5.51 ERA. He spent time with the major league club in each of the past two seasons before being shipped to the Rangers on November 16, one day before the Cubs signed free agent left-hander Scott Eyre.
