Coats Welcoming Change

Buck Coats has spent most of his years in the Cub farm system as a shortstop. This year, he figures to get the majority of his playing time in the outfield at Triple-A alongside the Cubs' top prospect. (Windows Media Player recommended for listening.)

Buck Coats has always flexed a solid bat in the lineup, but his defense as an infielder has been suspect at times. This spring, and in the second half of last season, he gained more experience in the outfield and plans to spend a good amount of playing time there in 2006.

An all-star at Double-A West Tenn last season, Coats was optioned to Iowa over the weekend and will begin his first Triple-A season Thursday when the I-Cubs open regular season play against the Albuquerque Isotopes in Des Moines.
