To coincide with the roster move, right-hander Federico Baez has been promoted from West Tenn to Iowa. Baez was with the Iowa staff from April 17-22, where he appeared in one game. At Double-A, he was 1-0 with a 3.94 ERA in eight games.
Brownlie last pitched at Double-A in 2004, where he made 26 starts and was 9-9 with a 3.36 ERA.
Alan Dunn, Brownlie's pitching coach at Iowa, said he thought Brownlie had been throwing better in recent outings and was showing better movement on his pitches.
"It's simply a matter of executing his pitches," Dunn said. "His mistakes have been hit obviously, but he's also made some good pitches that were hit ... He's just going to have to pitch through this spell. Once he gets some success under his belt this year, he'll be fine."
