Cubs acquire Former First-Round Pick

In adding non-roster right-hander Ty Taubenheim to their 40-man roster, the Toronto Blue Jays had to make room for him and in doing so had to put a player on waivers.

That player turned out to be former first-round pick Miguel Negron, claimed by the Chicago Cubs.

Negron was the 18th pick overall in the 2000 draft, a draft overseen by then Jays scouting director Tim Wilken. Wilken is now with the Cubs. Negron was at Double-A New Hampshire this year. In 33 games he was hitting .215 with two homers, 12 RBIs and a .266 OBP.
