"If everything is fine and he's loose, we'll let him (start)," Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild said. "But if there's anything where we need to back him off and watch him, we'll do that, too.
"There's a good possibility he is going to start. But if it doesn't happen that way, we'll be prepared for it."
Left-handed pitcher Glendon Rusch, who opened the season in the starting rotation but is now in the bullpen, could get the start if Wood gets scratched.

--RHP Carlos Zambrano gave up three home runs but also struck out nine in an up-and-down performance against the White Sox on Sunday. But he won his third straight game with the 7-4 victory over the Sox.
--3B Aramis Ramirez hit his first homer since May 7 in the second inning on Sunday against the White Sox and added another in the fourth. Ramirez, whom the Cubs had hoped would get hot in the wake of Derrek Lee's wrist injury, took over the team lead with eight homers and is tied with Michael Barrett with 20 RBIs.
--RHP Kerry Wood said he will make his start Tuesday against Florida, but he has not made a bullpen session since making his first appearance of the season on Thursday. Wood is coming off shoulder surgery, and the Cubs will wait to see how he feels on Monday before deciding if he should be scratched on Tuesday.
--LHP Rich Hill was demoted to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday after going 0-4 with a 9.31 ERA. Hill said that he was prepared to pitch at the major league level mentally, but mechanically he was having trouble locating his pitches.
--RHP Michael Wuertz was brought up from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. He figures to get some long- and middle-relief work. Wuertz was with the club at the start of the season and had a 6.75 ERA in three appearances before he was demoted. He was 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA and two saves in 10 relief appearances for Iowa.
