Audio: Darin Downs Interview

DAYTONA BEACH -- After trying his hand at starting for the better part of three seasons in the Cubs' farm system, left-hander Darin Downs came to Class A Daytona this season for what was expected to be his first full season in relief.

The 22-year-old Downs was a fifth-round Cubs draft pick in 2003 from Santaluces (Fla.) High School in the southeast.

Since then, the southpaw has battled through a few minor injuries en route to the Florida State League and Daytona, where he is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 12 appearances, including a pair of two-inning starts.
