Fox batted .222 with six home runs, 10 doubles and 26 RBIs in 29 games with Iowa. He currently leads the Cubs' farm system in home runs and RBIs.
The bulk of Fox's playing time came at first base in the absence of Micah Hoffpauir, who returned from the disabled list this week after straining an oblique muscle in an exhibition game prior to the season.
INF Eric Patterson also returned from the disabled list this week. Patterson batted .260 in 15 games prior to going down in late April with a strained hamstring.
In corresponding moves, the Cubs released OF Corey Coles while LHP Geoff Jones retired. In 11 games with Iowa, Coles batted .360 (9-for-25). Chicago acquired Coles along with minor league pitcher Ryan Meyers – whom the Cubs also recently released – from the New York Mets in the off-season for OF Angel Pagan.
Jones made 10 appearances with Iowa and had an 8.44 ERA in 16 innings.
Additionally, the Cubs signed veteran right-hander Hector Carrasco and assigned him to Iowa. Carrasco, 38, pitched last season in the major leagues for the Los Angeles Angels, going 2-1 with a 6.57 ERA in 29 appearances.
No other roster moves are known at this time.
