Six BayBears Named to All-Star Squad

Six members of the 2012 Mobile BayBears roster were named Thursday by the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs to the 2012 Southern League All-Star Game. They will play for BayBears manager Turner Ward, who is the the reigning Southern League Manager of the Year.

Position players Matt Davidson, Marc Krauss, and Alfredo Marte will join pitchers Chase Anderson, Evan Marshall, and Tyler Skaggs as BayBears representatives on the South Division roster at Smokies Park in Kodak, Tennessee for the June 19th All-Star game.

Players selected for the Southern League All-Star teams are selected by a vote of Southern League field managers, radio broadcasters, general managers and print media. All players on Southern League rosters as of May 17 were eligible for the voting. Starting lineups for the North and South Divisions will be released on June 14th and 15th, respectively.

Anderson, 24, will make his first appearance on an All-Star team in his first season at the Double-A level. This season with the BayBears, the right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA. In seven starts for Mobile, Anderson has allowed 32 hits in 39 innings pitched. The Wichita Falls, Texas native has struck out 42 batters while holding opponents to a .222 average. Anderson was selected by the Diamondbacks in the ninth round (276th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma.

Davidson, 21, is named to an All-Star team for the third time in his career. The BayBear infielder was named to the MidWest mid-season and postseason teams in 2011. In 59 games with Mobile in 2012, Davidson has 58 hits in 216 ab-bats for a .269 average, with 12 home runs and 34 RBI. The Redlands, California native's 12 home runs are the second most in the Southern League this season. Davidson was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round (35th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Krauss, 24, is named a Southern League All-Star for the second straight season. His nine home runs and 38 RBI are the third most in the Southern League. Krauss' .289 average is complemented with 30 extra-base hits. The Deshler, Ohio native was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2nd round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft from Ohio University (Athens, OH).

Marshall, 23, is named to his first All-Star team in only his second season of professional baseball. The right-handed reliever currently holds a 2.11 ERA (5 ER/21.1 IP) with a league best 12 saves. Ranked as Baseball America's number 19 prospect, the Sunnyvale, California was selected by the Diamondbacks in the fourth round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft from Kansas State University.

Marte, 23, is named to an All-Star team for the second time in his career. The BayBear outfielder was named to the MidWest mid-season team in 2009. Marte leads the league with 13 home runs and is second with 43 RBI. Born in Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, DO, Marte Signed with the Diamondbacks as a non-drafted free agent on Dec. 12, 2005.

Skaggs, 20, is named to his third All-Star team in his young career. The Woodland Hills, California native was selected to MidWest League All-Star team in 2010, and in 2011 was named to the California League All-Star team. In the first half of 2012, Skaggs is 4-3 with a 2.65 ERA for the BayBears. In 10 starts, Skaggs has allowed just 16 earned runs in 54.1 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .235 average. Rated as the number 13 prospect by Baseball America, Skaggs was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 1st round (40th) of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft from Santa Monica High School and acquired by the Diamondbacks with pitchers Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin and Rafael Rodriguez for pitcher Dan Haren on July 25, 2010.
