Visalia Photo Gallery: Oaks Edge JetHawks 2-1

Cesar Valdez and the Visalia Oaks bested the previous Diamondbacks Hi-A Affiliate on Tuesday by a 2-1 score. A two-run 5th inning is all Valdez and converted outfielder Leyson Septimo would need from the Oaks' offense. All photos by James Venes.

In his strongest outing this month, Visalia starter Cesar Valdez allowed just six baserunners and one run over seven strong innings, improving his record to 5-2 and his ERA to 3.51.

Lancaster starter Alan Mills did not last five innings, surrendering seven hits to the Oaks and getting charged with both Oaks runs.

Peter Clifford bats with the bases juiced in the third inning. Mills got him to ground out to end the inning with no damage done.

Gerardo Parra rounds third base in the fifth inning. The top position player prospect was instrumental in Visalia's two-run fifth inning, singling, driving in a run, stealing a base, and scoring (pictured).

Bill Musselman (left) chugs around third and scores from second on Parra's base hit.

Peter Clifford (right) redeems himself in the fifth by singling in Parra for what would be the game-winning RBI. He would also double in the eighth.

Pedro Ciriaco flips to second baseman Steve Mena for a force out. He boasts a .980 fielding percentage this year at shortstop as compared to .938 in 2007 and .927 in 2006.

Leyson Septimo, who converted from an outfielder to a reliever in the offseason, tossed two hitless innings for the first save of his career.

Reid Engel (left) and Jon Still (right) were ranked as the 17th and 19th best prospects in the Red Sox organization in the 2008 Prospects Guide. Valdez and Septimo combined to hold the duo to just one single in eight at-bats.

Josh Papelbon, younger brother of Jonathan Papelbon and twin of the Cubs' Jeremy Papelbon, uses a unique submarine-style delivery. He tossed a scoreless eighth inning for the JetHawks.

Septimo and Musselman celebrate the win after Septimo induces a ground out to Ciriaco that ended the contest.
