On Thursday, February 12th at the Arthur Outlaw Convention Center, not only will the Mobile BayBears celebrate the 75th birthday of Baseball's Home Run King, but they will also honor former BayBears Mark Reynolds and Justin Upton, who have both gone on to stardom at the major league level for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Reynolds and Upton will join other former BayBears such as Jake Peavy and Matt Clement as members of the BayBears Hall of Fame. Both men accelerated straight from Mobile to Arizona, the first two Diamondback prospects to make such a leap since Mobile became the D-backs' Double-A destination in 2007.
"We are proud to have Justin and Mark inducted to the BayBears Hall of Fame," said A.J. Hinch, Diamondbacks director of player development. "Both players represent our organization well on and off the field, so to have them as our first members of the Hall of Fame is rewarding for us and them. Although they have advanced to our major league club, I'm sure they have fond memories of their time in Mobile. We appreciate their induction and look forward to having more players come through Mobile on their way to Arizona."
As a BayBear, Reynolds hit .306 while walloping six home runs in just 37 games. Since his call-up, Reynolds has crushed 45 dingers while knocking in 159 runs. Upton wowed the Southern League during his stay in Mobile with a .309 average, 13 taters, and 10 stolen bases. Still just 21 years old, Upton already has appeared and contributed for the D-backs in the National League Playoffs while hitting 15 long balls in 2008. Reynolds and Upton will be in attendance at the Arthur Outlaw Convention Center on Thursday, February 12th along with Hank Aaron and many other Mobile dignitaries.
