Trevor Harden Earns Promotion to Visalia

South Bend, IN – In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the South Bend Silver Hawks have announced that right-handed starter Trevor Harden has been promoted to Hi-A Visalia. Taking his spot on the active roster is RHP Randy Rodriguez. In addition, catcher Ryan Babineau will return to extended spring training in Arizona to continue his rehab.

Trevor Harden went 5-1 with a 2.39 ERA in six games for South Bend this season. He leads the Midwest League in wins (five) and innings pitched (37.2), while ranking ninth in ERA. Harden has also thrown the only complete game shutout in the league thus far, a seven-inning gem against the Dayton Dragons on April 28th at Coveleski Stadium in game one of a doubleheader. Selected in the 14th Round of the June 2008 draft, Harden will join Visalia for their next game on Tuesday against San Jose.

Harden had been making Midwest League hitters look silly on his changeup, which can range anywhere from 8-12 miles per hour slower than his sinker.

"It's been that way pretty much my whole life that I've thrown the pitch," Harden told  "I try not to change anything, since it's been working for me up until now, so I just try to do the same thing every day."

Randy Rodriguez joins the Silver Hawks from extended spring training and will be in uniform for Tuesday's game against the Lansing Lugnuts. Signed as a non-drafted free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2006, Rodriguez has been used as both a starter and reliever in his career. Last season with Missoula (Rookie), Rodriguez was 2-6 with an 8.10 ERA in 16 games, nine as a starter.

Ryan Babineau has been on the disabled list since April 24th with a hip injury. It was hoped that Babineau would only miss a couple of weeks, but the hip has not responded to treatment as well as the organization had hoped.  He will return to extended spring training camp in Tucson to continue his rehab and for further treatment.
