Bryan Augenstein to Face Reds on Wednesday

Bryan Augenstein has been promoted to the Diamondbacks and will make his major league debut in Cincinnati on Wednesday against the Reds. Wes Roemer has been promoted from Hi-A Visalia and will take Augenstein's place on the Mobile BayBears' Double-Aroster.

Bryan Augenstein went 5-0 with a 0.78 ERA in 34.2 Double-A innings before getting added to the 40-man roster and promoted to the majors. He replaces the injured Yusmeiro Petit in the D-backs' rotation.

Augenstein won 2008 FutureBacks Pitcher of the Year honors by leading the organization with a 2.75 ERA. He has one of the best sinkers in the system and throws it with exceptional accuracy. His extra success this season has come from improvement on his offspeed pitches.

"The Diamondbacks' philosophy is control the strike zone and work up and down. I tweaked a few things in the offseason and worked hard on my changeup," Augenstein explained. "When I throw it for a strike, it is a great third pitch that keeps hitters off-balance."

Wes Roemer, a first-round draft choice in 2007, went 3-1 with Visalia this year while posting a 2.05 ERA in 6 starts. He went 7-12 with a 4.59 ERA for Visalia last season and will take Augenstein's spot in the rotation on Friday night. Like Augenstein, Roemer rarely walks batters, but roemer has not missed bats as frequently as Augenstein has in their young careers to date.
