FutureBacks Power Rankings: Week 7

With all of the recent prospect promotions to the Arizona Diamondbacks, you would expect the farm system to struggle. That hasn't happened this week. The four D-backs affiliates combined to go 22-6 with the Mobile BayBears - the team that has lost Gerardo Parra, Clay Zavada, and Daniel Schlereth to the big league club - leading the way with a remarkable nine-game winning streak.

Reno Aces 23-28 (3rd); 5-3 This Week
Mobile BayBears 31-20 (2nd); 8-0 This Week
Visalia Rawhide 32-18 (1st) ; 5-1 This Week
South Bend Silver Hawks 24-24 (4th); 4-2 This Week

What a week!  The Mobile BayBears go for their 10th straight victory tonight, which would match the Visalia Rawhide's 10-0 start to the season.  As you might expect, a whopping eight new BayBears appear on our rankings.  So many players throughout the system are hot right now that players having good weeks are falling in the rankings or failing to appear on the list at all.  This is the case even after we expanded the rankings to an unprecedented (pre-draft) 38 players.

Speaking of the draft, that is coming up in a week.  With seven of the first 64 picks in the draft, the Diamondbacks organization is only going to get stronger later in the summer.  Although it is hard to imagine any players - newly drafted or otherwise - ousting any of the prospects from the top three spots right now, you never know.  If Clay Zavada and Daniel Schlereth continue to put up zeroes at the major league level, it will be difficult to keep them out of the top three much longer.

Remember, these rankings chronicle the hottest organizational prospects who are making the most of their opportunity, weighing recent performance most heavily, not the best prospects overall.
