FutureBacks Power Rankings: Week 8

Last week's 22-5 record for the Arizona Diamondbacks affiliates may have been a fluke, as they have combined to go 9-18 so far in June. Perhaps all that is needed for a more consistent performance is an influx of fresh new talent, which the system will receive this week with seven of the first 64 selections in the amateur draft.

Reno Aces 26-32 (3rd); 3-4 This Week
Mobile BayBears 33-25 (2nd); 2-5 This Week
Visalia Rawhide 35-22 (1st) ; 3-4 This Week
South Bend Silver Hawks 25-29 (4th); 1-5 This Week

Not everything is dismal for the farm system this week.  The Visalia Rawhide lead their division by two games with two weeks remaining in the first half.  Starting pitcher Pat McAnaney has been incredible with the exception of one poor start.  He's the best left-handed starter in the system for sure and arguably the best starter overall in the California League.

The Reno Aces set a franchise record with 21 runs scored on Friday. The first six batters in the lineup combined for 20 hits and 19 RBI.  Newcomer shortstop Ed Rogers and veteran prospect Alexander Romero are on tears along with seasoned catching prospect John Hester.

The Mobile BayBears got another strong start from the best prospect in the organization last night in an eventual walkoff win.  This is days after Cody Evans took a perfect game into the 7th inning, allowing naught but a leadoff triple in the 7th that he would strand.

Alas, the Silver Hawks have little to celebrate this week.  Only one of their four All-Stars is playing very well right now, but this is the affiliate that will benefit the most from the quality draftees due in later this month.

Remember, these rankings chronicle the hottest organizational prospects who are making the most of their opportunity, weighing recent performance most heavily, not the best prospects overall.
