D-backs Promote Two High Draft Picks

Wade Miley, the 43rd overall pick of the 2008 draft, and Eric Smith, the 60th overall selection in this year's draft, both advanced in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization this weekend. Miley joins the Visalia Rawhide while Smith takes Miley's place with the South Bend Silver Hawks.

LHP Wade Miley has been promoted to Hi-A Visalia. Taking his spot on the Silver Hawks' active roster is second round pick RHP Eric Smith.

Miley, a supplemental first round pick in 2008, had been in the starting rotation for the Silver Hawks all season. In 21 starts, he had a 5-9 record and a 4.12 ERA. Miley led the Silver Hawks in strikeouts with 91 at the time of his promotion.

Smith was selected in the second round (60th overall) of the recent June draft from the University of Rhode Island. In nine games with Rookie level Missoula, Smith went 0-3 with a 4.21 ERA. The right hander had struck out 21 and walked 16 in 25.2 innings pitched.

Smith boasts a mid-90s fastball while Miley weeilds a plus-slider. Both hurlers are highly-regarded despite middling results so far in their young pro careers.
