FutureBacks Power Rankings: 2010 Vol. 5

When we last checked in with the four affiliates of the Arizona Diamondbacks, none of them had a losing record. They have combined to go 8-22 since then, and now only the Visalia Rawhide remains above .500. There has been a flurry of player movement over the past few days as the front office attempts to resuscitate the big league bullpen and account for injuries.

Reno Aces 19-21 (2nd)
Mobile BayBears 18-20 (4th)
Visalia Rawhide 21-19 (3rd)
South Bend Silver Hawks 17-23 (6th)

Most of the player movement centers around the Visalia Rawhide pitching staff.  When starters Taylor Sinclair and Ryan Cook found themselves on the disabled list, the Rawhide needed some arms from South Bend.  Chase Anderson and Dan Taylor got the call, although Charles Brewer has the best ERA and WHIP in the entire farm system among starters.  The thought is that since the promotions are temporary to cover for minor injuries, they were based on when each pitcher would be available to slot into the rotation as much as their merit.

Additionally, Brad Gemberling was reassigned from Hi-A Visalia to Low-A South Bend so that Kevin Eichhorn could finally make his full-season debut at the Advanced A level.  Eichhorn was selected in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft, but his progress has been slowed by injuries.  Scott Allen, another high-school pitcher taken in  the early rounds of last year's draft, joins Gemberling in replacing Anderson and Taylor at South Bend.

Visalia also got catcher Chris Davis back with Konrad Schmidt activated off Mobile's disables list.  Davis had homered in his first Double-A at-bat.  Josh Collmenter joined the BayBears for his third affiliate level of the young season.  Replacing Collmenter on the Reno roster is Wes Roemer, who had been pitching brilliantly for Mobile.

Remember, the following rankings chronicle the hottest organizational prospects who are making the most of their opportunity by performing well.  They are not necessarily the best prospects in the system overall.

Abbreviations: Mob=Mobile, SL=Southern League, PCL= Pacific Coast League
DSL = Dominican Summer League SB=South Bend, MWL=Midwest League, Vis=Visalia, CL=California League
