D-backs Add Four as Rosters Expand

With the September roster expansion, the Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled infielders Tony Abreu and Brandon Allen and right-handed pitcher Carlos Rosa from Triple-A Reno and reinstated right-handed pitcher Leo Rosales from the 60-day disabled list. More additions are likely once the Reno Aces' season concludes on September 6.

Tony Abreu, 25, hit .237 (31-for-131) with 12 runs scored, 8 doubles and 7 RBI in 60 games for the D-backs this season. He hit .351 (33-for-94) with 17 runs scored, 7 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs and 21 RBI in 24 games with the Aces after being optioned on Aug. 4.

The 24-year-old Brandon Allen hit .261 (97-for-371) with 72 runs scored, 18 doubles, 3 triples, 25 home runs and 86 RBI in 107 games with the Aces. He was named the organization's Player of the Month in June after batting .329 (28-for-85) with 19 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 23 RBI, and a .649 slugging percentage in 26 games.

Carlos Rosa, 23, went 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA (10 ER in 13.1 IP), 9 walks and 8 strikeouts over 15 games with the D-backs this season. He secured 13 saves while posting a 1.63 ERA (5 ER in 27.2 IP) and .208 opponents average (20-for-96) with 14 walks and 31 strikeouts in 25 games over two separate stints with the Aces.

The veteran Leo Rosales posted a 5.06 ERA (3 ER in 5.1 IP) and .238 opponents average (5-for-21) with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts over 6 rehabilitation games with the Aces. Now 29, Rosales was placed on the disabled list with a right foot sprain on April 28 and underwent successful surgery to repair a stress fracture on May 4. Prior to being placed on the disabled list, he went 2-0 with an 8.10 ERA (9 ER in 10.0 IP), 6 walks and 9 strikeouts in 9 games with the D-backs. In 2008, he managed a 4.20 ERA over 30 innings with the D-backs, then he had a 4.76 ERA in 45.1 innings with them last year.

Shortstop Pedro Ciriaco, outfielder Cole Gillespie, and pitchers Zach Kroenke, Kevin Mulvey, and Rafael Rodriguez are all likely candidates for a callup once the Reno Aces' season concludes on September 6.
