I figured these two basically unknown guys before they signed with the Dodgers need their own thread so we can talk about the good and bad that we see from each. Lets talk it up and hopefully most of what we see is on the positive side of things!! GO BLUE!!!!
Puig has done better than expected early on....confirming his high prospect ranking. Let's see if he can continue thru ST? Baserunning and cutoffs need improvement...still waiting for that hr power. Ryu looks OK...I'd like him to keep balls lower in zone but early in ST. Today against LAA lineup will test him.
Puig is doing his job. Throwing out guy at 3rd dispells thoughts of inaccurate and ave arm. He and Magill are surprise stories so far. In a way I hope Puig goes to AA and destroys pitchers...love to see all those sportwriters eat crow since they thought dodgers were crazy. Then have Puig come back at end of yr ranked in top 20.
On Dodgers.com, Mattingly is saying that Ryu was "just OK" in last Friday's start and added that he is competing for a job in the starting rotation, implying that he could start the year in the bullpen.
As far as Puig goes, there is almost no chance he starts in the majors this year no matter what he does in spring training. Again, Mattingly countered the suggestion that Puig might stick with the big league club if Crawford isn't active on Opening Day. "Then you have the best chance of somebody going in the wrong direction,"Mattingly said. "You can get yourself in trouble. He's still raw. You don't want to get a guy beat up. Maybe he doesn't stuggle, but that's not usually the case." Again, Mattingly is going to go with the most veteran team he can put together. Guys like Puig and Castellanos are the longest of shots to make the club and I think Federowicz is doubtful unless Colletti forces the issue.

no they won't. Why would they ever keep Puig as a back up? If he's not starting he should be in the minors playing every day.
I never said BU...I said if Crawford is out for April...give Puig mlb time playing every day..like Kemp did. Then send him down to AA for addtl seasoning for rest of yr knowing what shortcomings he has to overcome. He will be a better player tasting mlb and also realizing what he needs to do to get back.
Im at Spring Training and I gotta tell you, Puig is a stallion. The ball comes off his bat with a sound much like some of the 'roid era stars. His bat speed is Canseco'ish freaky. He hit a couple of singles yesterday that I have to believe the infielders were quite happy they hit holes because they were hit hard. Everyone stops what they're doing when he comes up. There's a buzz around this kid right now.

It is nice to see we have major talent in Puig to develop at least one more yr in minors to improve some skills and get used to higher quality offspeed stuff and learn to walk more. I am curious to see if he is a .300bave ..30 hr and 30 sb guy-this yr? Hope he starts in AA and gets some AAA exposure later in 2013. maybe Sept call up since he is on 40 man.
A lot of people said the Dodgers were foolish spending a ton of money on two relative unknowns but it appears those same people will be eating some CROW PIE real soon.....both these guys look like the real deal!!!
