The Dodgers opened the second day of the draft by selecting two position players with third baseman Alex Santana out of Mariner High School in Cape Coral, Florida and North Carolina State University catcher Pratt Maynard. Santana, the 17-year-old son of former Major League infielder Rafael Santana, hit a team-best .402 with four home runs and 29 RBI in his senior season and was recently named the Most Valuable Player of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association's All-Star Baseball Classic. Maynard was selected to the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Team after leading the Wolfpack with a .323 batting average, 81 hits, 21 doubles, a .474 slugging percentage and 119 total bases. The 21-year-old played in the Cape Cod Summer League prior to his junior season, earning a selection as the Harwich Mariners' team MVP and starting at catcher in the league's All-Star game at Fenway Park.
With their fourth-round pick, the Dodgers selected Oklahoma City University right-hander Ryan O'Sullivan, the brother of Royals pitcher Sean. O'Sullivan played for San Diego State University in 2009 before transferring and was originally drafted by the Giants in the 10th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
The Dodgers selected three college pitchers with their first five picks, taking Oregon right-handed reliever Scott McGough with their fifth-round selection. The junior compiled a 3.59 ERA in a team-leading 31 appearances and struck out 62 in just 57.2 innings. McGough played for the U.S.A. Baseball's 2010 Collegiate National Team that traveled to Asia and was also a 2010 Pac-10 Honorable Mention reliever.
Los Angeles selected a local product with its sixth-round pick by taking right-handed pitcher Scott Barlow of Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita. Barlow, who wore No. 42 in high school in honor of Jackie Robinson, earned an All-Foothill League First Team selection in 2011, going 7-4 with 3.17 ERA. Earlier this season, the 18-year-old fanned 15 hitters in an April 4 win over La Quinta.
The Dodgers selected Spartanburg Methodist College outfielder Travis Burnside in the 25th round after previously choosing the 20-year-old with their 48th-round pick in 2009 out of Laurens District 55 High School (SC).
Below is a list of the Dodgers' first 30 selections. The final 20 rounds of the draft will take place tomorrow.
