Final Score: Braves 4, Dodgers 3
-Javy Guerra gets the loss but Matt Kemp blew the catch by needlessly jumping to catch the ball. This isn't the first time he's done it this season and it needs to be fixed by the coaching staff. By jumping, he alters his eye level which makes it harder to judge the trajectory of the ball. Had he simply run into the wall, he likely would have made the catch and preserved the tie.
-That's not to say Guerra and A.J. Ellis are without fault, though. You can only fail at blowing a guy away with a high fastball so many times before you should change your plan. Plus, keeping the ball up is rarely going to end well. Throw a breaking ball down and away.
-Juan Rivera became the 20th player to hit a ball into the Loge section in Dodger Stadium history. Don't throw him a hanging slider. He pulled his hammy on a groundout later in the game and is listed as day-to-day. I'm hoping for a Scott Van Slyke sighting, since Alex Castellanos just hit the DL, though it's not clear how much time Rivera will miss.
-Harang pitched worse than his line until he started giving up runs in the 5th inning. From the first batter, he was leaving pitches over the plate and finally got burned by Chipper Jones. His command was off and it ended up catching up to him.
-On the bright side, Kenley Jansen and Scott Elbert looked good. Jansen has been having issues with his mechanics, in which his arm lags behind his body. His upper and lower halves seemed more in sync tonight. Elbert seemed more under control as well. During one at bat, when Elbert was struggling to locate the ball, Ellis went out and talked to him. On the next pitch, Scott threw a strike and A.J. punched his glove at him, kind of applauding the pitch. I like when catchers do that.
-Jerry Hairston Jr. keeps on hitting, with a pair of singles propelling his batting average to .323. He's also shown strong defense in left and at third. The Ellises also had a pair of hits a piece.
-Up next, Ted Lilly faces off with Brandon Beachy. Game starts at 7:10pm Pacific.
