Dodgers Acquire Blanton

The Dodgers have acquired starter Joe Blanton from the Phillies in return for a player to be named later.

The Dodgers have announced the acquisition of right-hander Joe Blanton from the Phillies in exchange for a player to be named later.

Blanton, 31, has posted a 4.59 ERA in 21 appearances (20 starts) this season, including league-leading walk and strikeout to walk rates. The former "Moneyball" draft pick of the A's will be a free agent in 2013.

Blanton offers the Dodgers rotation depth, with Ted Lilly rehabbing and Stephen Fife struggling with control. The righty leads the NL with 22 home runs allowed, though 14 of those came at hitter-friendly Citizen's Bank Park.

While it's unknown who the Dodgers will be sending to Philadelphia in return, odds are against it being a Top 20 prospect. A more in depth look at the trade will come once the player is named.
