The Loons bullpen struggled to hold a lead in the first two games of their series with the Dragons.
But that didn't matter Monday night as the bullpen shut down Dayton for three scoreless innings.
"We've played well this whole series," said manager John Shoemaker. "But we've let a couple leads get away from us late in the ballgame so it was nice tonight to establish another lead and hold on to it."
Juan Noriega was first out of the pen in the seventh inning.
He did give up a hit, but still was able to keep the Dragons (18-25) off the scoreboard and lowered his ERA to 2.92 while recording his ninth hold.
Next up was Daniel Coulombe, who in his last 10 outings has thrown 7 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out 13 batters.
Coulombe struck out the side lowering his ERA to 4.35.
Then entered Juan Rodriguez for the save.
Rodriguez's numbers have been opposite to Coulombe in his last 10 outings. In 12 1/3 innings Rodriguez has given up 13 earned runs for an ERA of 9.49.
But on this night the hard throwing righty from the Dominican Republic showed what he can do.
He earned his first save of the season by striking out two while topping out at 96 MPH.
"Juan (Rodriguez) is a tough guy to hit when he's in the strike zone," Shoemaker said. "He had a lot of confidence tonight when he entered the ball game and it was great outing for him."
Now the pitching can't do it all, Great Lakes scored its runs with a combination of solid hitting and aggressive base running.
Left fielder Scott Schebler lead the way at the plate with two doubles off the centerfield wall including the go ahead RBI in the sixth inning.
On the bases the Loons (19-24) stole five bases while second baseman Jesus Arredondo had two of those stolen bases and scored on two wild pitches.
"It feels great (to get the win) especially when I felt we played well enough to get the other two," Schebler said. "We're playing one game at a time right now, that's the way you have to play."
