According to multiple sources, the Dodgers have reached an agreement with Time Warner Cable on a new television broadcasting deal. This comes after several months of negotiations between the club and their current carrier, Fox Sports. The deal has not been announced by the team nor TWC, though the plan is expected to be submitted to Major League Baseball in the near future.
Dayn Perry, of CBS Sports, reports that the deal could be worth as much as $7 billion and bring the club roughly $250 million annually. Perry also reports that most of the revenue generated by the new station would be sheltered from MLB's revenue sharing system, thanks in large part to a court decision during Frank McCourt's tenure as owner. While details have not been made public as of yet, the deal will be the largest in sports history.
There is some conflicting information regarding control of the channel. Alex Sherman and Scott Soshnick of Bloomberg report that the Dodgers' regional sports netowrk (RSN) will be a partnership, with TWC running the network and selling advertising. However, Bill Shaikin and Joe Flint of the LA Times state that the Dodgers are expected to control the new venture. The deal is expected to be announced Thursday, with details sure to follow.
