It was a tough game for Chattanooga Thursday night when the Generals took advantage of the pitches from Zach Lee and scored six runs in the second and third innings.
Manager Jody Reed waited until the fourth inning to take Lee out, and was really pleased by the results Kyle Cofield showed coming from the bull-pin.
"Zach came out and he was getting the ball elevated, they were taking advantage of it," Manager Jody Reed said. "Stroking the ball, getting some good contact off of him, and finding some gaps in it, and I just had a feeling that three innings were enough today. The bull-pin came in and this was the best night of the year for the bull-pin. Six shut down innings. Real happy about that."
The Lookouts tried to find an answer to the six run lead when first baseman J.T. Wise doubled to left field, putting him in scoring position. Wise would move even closer when C.J. Retherford singled down third baseline on a sharp line drive. Finally, after a sacrifice fly to center field, Wise scored.
Chattanooga fought hard to come back from the five run deficit but were unable to get a hit off of the arm of Taijuan Walker who was throwing upwards of 96 mph against the Lookouts.
"I was impressed," Reed said. "He threw a heck of a ball game, and moved his fastball in and out, was down in the zone, mixed up his speeds, got his breaking ball over when he needed too. It was a nice outing for him. We faced a tough arm today."
Wise would score one more time for Chattanooga in the ninth inning when Retherford grounded out to the second baseman, giving the game a final score of 6-2.
Chattanooga continues it's series against the Generals tomorrow night.
