Chattanooga rushed onto the board early when Joc Pederson homered to right field bringing in Rafael Ynoa. Yasiel Puig scored just minutes later before Gorman Erickson was tagged out in a double play. This gave the Lookouts a 3-1 advantage in the first inning.
"Right now we need to try and create opportunities," Manger Jody Reed said. "I said I was going to do that in my mind and we had some opportunities. We got some early baserunners. Let's go; let's take our shots. We've got to move people around, and manufacture some runs and fortunately we were able to put three on the board early."
After allowing a single run in the first inning the Lookouts own Rob Rasmussen rose to the occasion and put up five more innings for Chattanooga striking out five batters and no walked batters.
"I thought that Rasmussen threw the ball really well," Reed said. "He gave up the run in the first inning, and then hunkered down and gave us a nice quality start."
"I thought overall it was good," Rasmussen said. "I obviously gave up that run in the first. I threw some decent pitches, they did a good job of hitting but it's big when you can come back and score three in the bottom of that inning and from there I have the freedom to attack and go after guys knowing that we were ahead and that I didn't really have to worry about keeping them there or playing from behind."
"After the first inning you want to sit there and see how they are going to react," Reed said. "How are they going to react? Are they going to get frustrated or are they just going to come in gather their thoughts and go back out and battle and that's what he did. He seemed to really focus in on his game."
"He's got a live arm, good movement on the ball, if he can improve that fastball command he can play in the big leagues," Reed said.
The Lookouts scored their last run in the third when Puig grounded out to the first baseman, giving Ynoa a chance to make it from third to home.
Chattanooga gave up a two run homer in the top of the seventh to the BayBears but that wasn't enough to put down the Lookouts who finished off the game 4-3.
