The Midlands 150

FRISCO, Texas -- A trio of defensive players lead the charge at the front of the Midlands 150...

The Fight for No. 1

The battle between Tony Brown and Myles Garrett was ridiculously close, so close that Brown ended as the No. 4 prospect in the country and Garrett ended up No. 5. That gives you a 1A and a 1B situation, much like the battle between Leonard Fournette and Cameron Robinson in Louisiana.

Brown, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback from Beaumont (Texas) Ozen is one of the most elite speedsters to ever come out of high school. He has world class speed in the 110-meter hurdle and clocked a 4.37 40-yard dash at the NFTC. He is already enrolled at Alabama.

Garrett, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end from Arlington (Texas) Martin has been steadily climbing the ratings charts, culminating in a dominating performance at the Under Armour All-American Bowl. He is a physical specimen, whose quickness and strength combine to make an edge rushing terror.

Rounding out the Top 5 are Lewisville (Texas) Hebron safety Jamal Adams, Coppell (Texas) High defensive end Solomon Thomas and Olathe (Kan.) South offensive lineman Braden Smith.

Signing Day Decisions

DE Solomon Thomas - Coppell (Texas)
He is down to three schools: Arkansas, Stanford and UCLA. He has an official visit with Arkansas coming up this weekend and will announce his final intentions on National Signing Day.

OG Braden Smith - Olathe (Kan.) South
Smith has four schools in the mix for his signature: Auburn, Notre Dame, TCU and Texas A&M. He has already visited Auburn and will conclude his official trip schedule with stops in College Station and Fort Worth.

OT Roderick Johnson - Florissant (Mo.) Hazelwood Central
Johnson is listing: Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State. The Seminoles have long been considered the front runner to get his signature, but his recruitment has been somewhat of a mystery.

S Steven Parker - Jenks (Okla.)
Parker is listing his finalists: Auburn, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M. He has played his recruitment close to the vest down the stretch. He will announce Signing Day.

DT Trey Lealaimatafao - San Antonio (Texas) Warren
Fresh off of a decommitment from Texas he is listing: LSU, Oregon and UCLA. He will make a signing day decision. He just took an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge to get a better feel for that environment.

By the Numbers

116 players from the State of Texas can be found on the list.

After only having 3 players in the Midlands 150 in 2013, Kansas doubles that number with 6 in 2014. After the aforementioned Braden Smith, players like OLB Jimmie Swain (Oregon), RB Traevohn Wrench (Kansas), DT Peyton Newell (Nebraska), TE DeAndre Goolsby (Florida) and QB Dimonic McKinzy (Minnesota) are all potential college difference makers.

Texas leads with 18 current listed commits. Baylor is second with 13.

Checking in at 16 Dylan Sumner-Gardner from West Mesquite (Texas) High is the highest rated Midlands talent to ever sign with Boise State. He is also the highest rated national commit BSU has landed since's rankings inception in 2002.
