It was a perfect day to play baseball on some of the most beautiful little league fields you have ever seen. The morning dew glistening on the bright green grass as hundreds of kids parade in, some on foot and some even riding on a firetruck. This is how opening day goes every year at Sunrise Little League in Woodland Hills, CA. Today had one small change in the program, it was a day to honor Sunrise Little League alumni and Hall of Famer, Robin Yount.
Sunrise has a rich history and honors its roots. Today was a day to encourage their young athletes that Big League dreams can come true on the very grass that they play on every week. Robin was so excited about the tribute but unfortunately was unable to attend today's ceremony. Robin did however, call in and talk to the group in attendance. He encouraged the young players and shared his fond memories at Sunrise.
Another opening day surprise was the appearance of former Dodgers pitcher, Dennis Powell, a 1993 teammate of Robin. Dennis shared his memories of Robin and took pictures with players and parents.
It is always great for kids when Big League players give back and spend time encouraging our future athletes and community leaders.
