Updating the Los Angeles Dodgers' 2016 Draft Picks Currently At Great Lakes

The Dodgers ‘16 draft class features seven players currently on the Great Lakes Roster.  Here’s an update on how they’re doing so for for the Loons:

Player (Round)

Mitchell White (2nd)

At Great Lakes:

4 GS

8 IP

0.63 WHIP

9/3 K/BB

AZL + Great Lakes:

6 GS

12 IP

0.67 WHIP

17/3 K/BB

The sturdy (6’4” 207 LB.) Santa Clara Bronco is getting the Kid Glove treatment from the Dodgers with a clear 2 IP/Start limit thus far.  His small body of work has been impressive however.  The Dodgers’ second round draft pick is 21 years old after his time in college, so his quick rise is perhaps not as surprising as if’ he’d shown up out of high school.  Have to believe he’s gonna get every chance to start at AA in 2017 if he continues to perform like this.

Luke Raley (7th)

At Great Lakes:

123 PA

AZL+Ogden+Great Lakes:

157 PA

The 21 year-old lefty slugger made it to Great Lakes after tearing up both Dodger Rookie League affiliates. He’s been decent so far at Great Lakes, though he has yet to homer at that level. Again, at 21, the Dodgers figure to give him every shot at AA in 2017.

Darien Tubbs (16th)

At Great Lakes:

150 PA

At Ogden+Great Lakes:

172 PA

Speedy Outfielder made a quick jump from Ogden to the Loons. The former Memphis Tiger has brought the running game to Great Lakes, stealing 12 bases out of 15 attempts so far. He’s shown good patience at the plate so far.  Question is going to be can he hit enough and can he hit for enough pop?  Tough to make it all the way to The Show with a Juan Pierre profile.

Jeff Paschke (22nd)

At AZL Rookie League:

1 IP

2.00 WHIP

2/1 K/BB

Paschke is currently on the Loons’ 7-Day DL and has yet to make his debut for Great Lakes. The former USC Trojan is 21 and will be 22 when the 2017 season begins.

Saige Jenco (24th)

At Great Lakes:

80 PA

Ogden+Great Lakes:

132 PA

The Virginia Tech Hokie has been getting regular playin time since arriving at Great Lakes, but the bat has yet to play after a short but successful stint at Ogden. Another diminutive player (5’10” 175 LB.) who does have 7 SB’s in 7 attempts for the Loons.

Steve Berman (31st)

At Great Lakes:

10 PA

At AZL+Great Lakes:

53 PA

Another Santa Clara Bronco draftee, Berman was promoted this past week (8/1) from the Arizona Rookie League.

Zach McInstry (33rd)

At Great Lakes:

51 PA

At AZL+ Great Lakes:

68 PA

The rare prospect who has performed better after getting promoted.  Has hit well for the Loons since his arrival.  At 151 lbs. he’ll likely need to bulk up over the course of the offseason, but at shortstop if he keeps hitting a promotion seems likely regardless.
