Andre Ethier in 2017

Andre Ethier in 2017

Ethier spent most of last season on the disabled list after a foul ball off of

the shin left him with a broken fibula. He worked very hard to get back for the last

month of the season and the playoffs. This spring while suffering no lingering

effects from the injury, is once again in a crowded Dodger outfield. With Joc

Pederson locked into the centerfield spot leaves the battles for the corner spots

with Andrew Toles, Yasiel Puig, Scott Van Slyke, along with prospects Cody

Bellinger and Alex Verdugo. Ethier has great stats against righties at a .303

average, but .234 against lefties. That makes him likely as a platoon player with

Puig in right. That is if Puig is over last year’s problems that led to a demotion to

the minors. In any event it will be spring training that will tell the tale; So much for

games not counting in spring.
