Rain Drowns Dodgers in Chicago

The Dodgers had to endure a 56 minute rain delay on the Cubs opening day at Wrigley field. This

was a special day for Cubs fans as they raised their first world champion banner in 108 years. The Cubs

beat the Dodgers 3-2 in walk off fashion. John Lester threw 6 strong innings for the Cubs giving up one

run on 4 hits. Wade Davis got the win as Anthony Rizzo’s single scored the winning run. Sergio Romo got

tagged with the loss. Forsythe and Grandal had two hits for the Dodgers. It wasn’t the cleanest of games

as the Dodgers made 2 errors and the Cubs made 3.

On this date in 1962, the long awaited Dodger stadium was opened after 4 years playing in the

L.A Memorial Coliseum playing the Cincinnati Reds. It was then as it is now one of the leagues nicest

ballparks. 1962 would be a great season for the Dodgers as Maury Wills’ 100 stolen bases would earn

him the MVP, and Don Drysdale would win the Cy Young award. Jackie Robinson would be the first black

player inducted into the hall of fame in 1962 as well. But old habits die hard as the Dodgers would lose

the Pennant to the San Francisco Giants in a three game playoff.
