The Giants, Dodgers rivalry continued tonight as the Dodgers ace Kershaw went dueling against
the Giants Johnny Cueto. Kershaw gave up two homeruns to lose a pitcher’s duel 4-3. This is unusual for
Kershaw who rarely allows homeruns, over his 9 year career he has never given up more than 16 home
runs in a season, last year he only gave up 8. So far he is 130 wins to 62 losses with a career era of 2.37.
There is a reason for his superhuman stats and that is his pinpoint control with a devastating curveball.
His career strikeout to walk ratio is 4.09 but last years was a whopping 15.64.
Kershaw also has a foundation called “Kershaw’s challenge” which is a Christ based program
that raises money for projects in Dallas, Los Angeles, Zambia, and the Dominican Republic. For every
strikeout he gets he donates to the foundation as well as raising donations from others, last year raising
over 1.3 million to help underprivileged kids and communities. I feel it is important that the public
knows a lot of ballplayers have foundations or donate a lot of money to different charities. This is a great
example for all of the young players coming up.
