The Dodgers offence erupted on the Giants tonight getting 13 runs on 11 hits giving Alex Wood his second
win. Over the course of his career the big left handed pitcher is 29-30 with an ERA of 3.35, mostly a starter but has
come out of the pen as well, to make him versatile. He has good control as his strikeout to walk ratio is right at 3k’s
to every walk. So far he has been a fill in starter and reliever making him valuable to the team.
According to Statcast his average fastball touches 92.72 mph with a spin rate of 1743 revolutions per
minute (rpm). This stat is interesting, because it is used with velocity as it records how many times the ball spins
around before it gets to home plate. What the spin rate tells us what kind of outs you are going to get. A high spin
Rate gets fly balls and strikeouts, and a low spin rate is more groundballs. The highest spin rate has been 2553 rpm
to the lowest 1743. So it looks like we can expect ground balls from Wood.
